Back to Los Angeles: #1 - Palm Trees

A long time past, and many images since, that I've posted. (go figure that sentence out!) A few weeks ago, I returned to live in LA again, after being in Chapel Hill for the last 13 years. For all the trees out there in NC, I found I, myself, perhaps not being a tree, didn't really root very deeply.

So, here I am again, this time armed with my iPhone instead of the usual assortment of cameras I toted in the past, until a few months ago, when I fell hard for this way of shooting. It started in NY, and I haven't looked back. In fact, I haven't posted anything from the first series of iPhone based images from then, because all of a sudden it's now, and these are the new photos I'd rather share.

I'm finding much inspiration and shooting most everyday, ranging from people in my daily life, the nature and architecture in my surroundings, and the usual cornucopia of what is Los Angeles.

This group will involve palm trees. It's a place to start.

Flowering Tree Meditations

A few quiet afternoons of warm spring weather with fresh air, not yet filled with North Carolina yellow pollen, drew me outside. Some neighborhood trees provided moments of quietly
lingering with my camera.

NYC - With Camera, While Walking Leon

The other day, when I arrived in NY to be with my family it was chilly and misty, and the dog needed to be walked.
We headed from the apartment in Tribeca toward Chinatown, Little Italy and the City Hall area.  Leon spent his time excitingly sniffing out walls and what-not to pee on, while I metaphorically followed the same sort of involvement with the environment, but with my camera.
I loved how much of the neigborhood architecture (and the fish market) was classic. I felt transported into a different era.

These pictures, I hope, carry the spirit of Old /New York as I experienced it that lovely, misty afternoon.

Universal 5 Oracle

It's odd to me that sometimes, late at night, when I'm looking for something in a hard drive, an image I don't remember making some long time ago, pops up.....in this case, a vague recognition ignited as I remember making the original photos using a book of ancient yantras for the background, decades ago, when I built up montages before Photoshop made it happen magically.

Then, a few years ago, again, late at night,  I found a small pile of those little 4x6 prints in a box, and dropping into a dreamy state, sat on the floor, playing them into this configuration, then taking  a photo of it.  And that was that. Until now.....
